keep your friends close but your enemies closer

Just recently, San Cho posted this Photoshop picture of Sarah Palin in a KKK uniform in the comment section of my blog.

-

I personally condemn the picture and I can't find any humor in it.  My question is simple. Does anyone else condemn this?

And who supports it? I have joked around with photoshop pictures before, but I have never put anyone in a Hitler or KKK uniform because that goes beyond being a joke and crosses over into the realms of full blown hate speech.

Starkers, you are truly unique.

Yup, I try to be one of a kind.

For one: we couldn't afford the wardrobe... and two; we prefer our wildlife without buckshot.

I don't know if this is a cheap shot at hunters

Nah, not a cheap shot at hunters... well not those who need to hunt to feed themselves and their families.  It was, however, a cheap shot at Palin, who really has no need to hunt.  So, being Palin can more than adequately feed herself and family without hunting, killing animals, for her, must be a sport, eh?

Also you're previous post about all of us being staunch republicans is ill informed to some extent. Most of us are fierce independents

Um, Saint C, that bit about staunch Republicans and 'erections' on the town hall steps was just a bit of tongue in cheek and another dig at Palin... eg, the nipple slip and life-like statue for followers to worship.   So no, 99% of my posts/comments in this (similar threads) are just a bit of tomfoolery and are not intended to be taken too seriously.  Sure it's true that I think Sarah Palin is a complete airhead and would be disasterous for America if she ever got to be VP and/or president, but there's no point in getting serious (yet).... she's a joke to be joked about.

Speaks truth. She does it for sport? Maybe. More likely to get votes. Everything in her 'public' life is geared to that. Hunting to feed your family? OK, if you don't really have a choice. Not OK if it's a weird 'gourmet/gourmand' fixation.

Some people might feel that some animal somewhere doesn't really matter. I don't. I think that represents an arrogance that is unjustifiable: Human life is more valuable than animal life. That is unsupportable. It also worries me. Who knows where that type of thinking ends? Is some human life less valuable than another? Can we then hunt those humans for sport? For 'Security'?

No matter where one goes in the decision tree of violence, one reaches an abhorrent endpoint.

The only acceptable violence is true self defense from immanent death or dismemberment. I don't think shooting wolves from helicopters fits that requirement.

Tina Fey - somebody else who thinks Palin is a joke to be joked about - has Palin firmly in her sights.  Apparently, Fey is ready to revive her SNL parody of Palin.

Tina Fey - somebody else who thinks Palin is a joke to be joked about

Fey's pretty funny, and Palin was a good sport about that type of humor. That kind of thing is all in good fun, but I don't see why people zero in on Palin as "a big joke" when we have people in congress claiming that Guam could "tip over and capsize" at any time and a Vice President who can't seem to go a day without making a complete and utter fool of himself. I think Joe Biden is the laughing stock, Obama still isn't really all that ready for prime time either.

There is little if any good-natured humor on the left (SNL being the exception).  There's bitter condescending humor.  Lotsa that (Bill Maher, Mikey Moore).  Hatred & disrespect just don't make for particularly good comedy.  The mainstream media routinely & repeatedly mock conservatives whenever they stub their toe, while virtually ignoring the gold mine of Biden gaffes & stuff like Congressman Johnson.  They (MSM) want people to feel embarrassed about being conservatives - they just can't quite contemplate that conservatives should be extended any respect.  Which is what made Letterman's surprisingly respectful interview of the Idaho Tea Party Chairwoman so newsworthy.

All of that while Biden & some of the Dems in Congress are making Quayle look like a genius.

I don't think they are trying to be funny in most instances... Its just a divide and conquer strategy thinly disguised as comedy. whenever politicians or their shills try to separate us by race or class it is something that should be shunned by voters. Heres just the latest example of race warfare

The thing is, Anthony R, most politicians are ill-equipped and lack the common sense/wherewithal to serve the people who elected them.  That's why they are the butt of jokes and ridicule... and frankly, most of them deserve it. So whether it's Sarah Palin or Joe Biden, it doesn't matter... if they cock up they're going to cop it.

Oh, and the reason I've not served it up to Biden is that we never got/don't get much in the way of news on him here in Oz.  Maybe during the next election we'll get enough fodder to mock him politically as well.

Hatred & disrespect just don't make for particularly good comedy.

Of course not!  While I usually consider politicians fair game, there are certain boundaries I will not cross... like John McCain's war record and being a POW, for example.  To me, those things should never be made fun of or ridiculed, yet there were those who seemed to enjoy making a mockery of it.

I've made it no secret that I think Sarah Palin is an airhead, nor the fact that I believe she would be bad for the entire world if she ever attained high office (VP or President), and I will poke a bit of fun at her on those grounds, but I will not  poke fun when it comes to her family (daughter becoming an unwed mother, etc) or private life.  I can be irreverent when it comes to politicians public lives, but I draw the line at mocking their personal/family lives... those are private and should be respected as such.

My apologies if anything I posted came off as angry.  But look at it from our perspective; Alaska has been a mostly overlooked state for so long and then practically overnight we came into the limelight only to be seemingly represented by Sarah Palin and common misconceptions.

Also as far as political humor goes I used to find a lot of it funny (from both sides);  I don't find it so anymore.  Not because of the swing from right to left, but because it seems to have gotten so much more divisive (sp?) over the last 10 years.  Nobody seems to be able to find any middle ground anymore.  It irritates me that people can vote blindly along party lines even when they don't completely agree with all their policies.  I'd fight to defend anyone's right to speak freely but if you're from the right or left and you genuinely hate anyone on the opposing side then feel free to drink the kool aid cause you're not helping.

Yes, at least Palin has done something - until she arrived I thought Alaska was part of Canada.

on Apr 04, 2010

Alaska? is that part of the british empire?

Whether or not I am a vegetarian or not is immaterial. We are discussing a propensity to take life as sport. It is not 'sport'. Neither is any other form of violence.

I don't know. Don't hunters eat the game they catch?

As for animals that cannot be eaten, I understand there are quotas and some of them have to be killed in order to protect their prey.
