keep your friends close but your enemies closer
Published on July 28, 2010 By Anthony R In Politics

Lately on the internet, I read a lot of people posting political thoughts as if they think they have all the answers to some of the most complex issues. I have opinions too, but I never claim that I'm 100% correct. I know what I read and I try to come to a reasonable conclusion. Many people have about as much expertise in political sciences as my garbageman, only difference? My garbageman might have opinions, but he doesn't consider himself an expert in matters of nuclear proliferation or Russian expansionism.

It is the age old cliche of "He who knows that he knows not is wise".  IN other words, the ones that are so sure of themselves are too ignorant to know their limitation.  I liken it to when I was in 3rd grade and learned that there was 12 of them.  I could not comprehend how you would spend 12 years in school!  There was just not enough stuff to learn.  I was definitely ignorant of my ignorance.

These people just never grew up.

I think I might be one of the person aimed at that jab.

At least, I try my best to gather my information on politically-neutral information services like Stratfor. But the more I read, the more I realise I don't know much.

But I still like reading and commenting, and trying to form an opinion on the matter. And be open to other people's opinion, as long as they seem to be open about mine. I can remember a few occasion where Dr. Guy swayed my way of thinking with good argument.

Some other bloggers here... not so much.

I do not think so (but good to see you back).  You pontificate like we all do, but you also admit when you are wrong - or even listen to other opinions you may not agree with, but give them merit.  I think this is the du.org, moveon.org, and Huggintonpost crowd.  The know it alls that do not know anything really.

Well, can't say that the know it alls are in overwhelming majority on one single side of the political fence, now, can't we?

(but good to see you back)

Sporadically, tbh I don't know when I will tire of political argumentation again.

Of course we can say that - after all, I know it all.

understandable.  This is not your fight,  But it is only going to get worse for the next 3 months.  it will die down after that to just some sporadic sniping.

Even if it's not my fight, you have to realise that it's going to impact my country. It's going to impact our economy, our culture and our politics.

We have a stake in what's happening over there, much more than you ever have in another country. So please understand why so many people seems to be meddling in your affairs. You are an elephant that disturb a lot of countries without even trying.

Do not get me wrong Cikomyr, I WELCOME your input.  I was just cautioning you that the politics are going to get a lot hotter in the next 3 months.

Us conservatives are hoping that the coming elections do impact your country - and ours - in a very POSITIVE economic fashion.  Clearly Obama and the democrats are clueless and their pork belly payoffs did not work.  Asking the question - are you better off now than 2 years ago - the answer is clearly no for all but the paid off democrat constituency (and then not all the democrats got a payoff).

Yhea. Seeing as 2 years ago, I was starting my job in Dubai and the economic crisis hadn't even happened yet. The anniversary is gonna strike us in a few weeks.

Am I better off than 1 year ago? Hell yhea.

Your article raises some interesting points.

Yup.

Let's admit it....discussing politics is interesting.....very interesting. (As far as I'm concerned nooot quite as interesting as discussing religion...but a close second! )

While I'm not in any way, shape or form an expert in politics, I do like to give my 2 cents worth in the political realm.

No one of us can possibly know all that's going on out there in the political world. I learn from reading these various political blogs and the comments back and forth. And even though there are differences, and disagreements, the dialogue, as long as it remains civil, is useful.

I was just cautioning you that the politics are going to get a lot hotter in the next 3 months.

 I agree.

I'll second DG's comment on that, I don't believe Tony had you in mind either.

...and that's all one can really do. It just amazes me how some can try to smear another's opinion, without offering something other than their talking points, and making disparaging remarks that add nothing to boot. So they believe that really wins their argument? Those trolls are just looking for a snack, and I'm finished feeding them. I'm not bothered if someone doesn't agree with me, some feel the need to be the finial, end all, be all word on an issue. You're handling yourself well on another thread, but I doubt in the end, it would matter much since most of those topics are empty and devoid anything other than an attempt to incite to begin with.

I'm sure you still have plenty more ego left.

Sorry Cikomyr, I wasn't really talking about you in particular, but if the shoe fits

One thing I find astonishing is the human reluctance to admit error or an incorrect course of action. The more intelligent the individual; the worse the condition. It seems like certain people are conditioned like Pavlov's dog to rush out and vote for any politician regardless of how corrupt and bankrupt..... demonstrable evidence of failure is actually a success. The internet is full of these types
