keep your friends close but your enemies closer

Back when I was in Junior High School, I was given the opportunity to interview Mayor Ed Koch in his Gracie Mansion offices. I remember Koch as a very kind and gracious host, and with that being said, I'm very disappointed in his recent announcement to support the Obama/Biden ticket. Its not because he is supporting his friend Joe Biden, its because he unnecessarily and erroneously demonized Sarah Palin, going as far as to characterize her as 'scary.' When Koch was asked why he felt this way, he said this:

"She scares the hell out of me, she wanted to censor books at the local library," in Wasilla, where she was mayor.

Its very disappointing because Koch is basing this statement on an internet smear. The city of Wasilla has posted a statement asserting that no books at the library were ever banned by Palin, and the charge that she banned books was dismissed as false by the non partisan factcheck.org.

I still like Mayor Ed Koch very much, but I am very dissapointed in him, and I wish he would come out and at least correct the record.

You should try to get something going where people contact him to correct his falsehoods. It's an outside chance, but some politicians will go on the record apologising, so as not to discredit themselves.

Smears are good - they do trick the dupes.  But the problem with not researching your subject is that you look the fool once the issue is shown to be a smear.  Ed Koch is sadly just a senile old man.

The damage is done. Retractions never show on page 1. I find the people that believe these fabrications have a hard time changing their minds once convinced.

Many people think they are Fonzie - and Wrrrrrrrrrr ONG is not in their vocabulary.
