WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Obama administration stopped calling Guantanamo inmates "enemy combatants" on Friday and incorporated international law as its basis for holding the prisoners while it works to close the facility.

Well, if we're not going to call them enemy combatants anymore then what shall we call them? People for whom we seldom disagree?

Ridiculous.

Bundys?  Gacys?

Weavers would probably be best - Reno would certainly approve.

Or, I don't know, Prisoners of War. Just throwing that out there.

In another post I suggested "disgruntled global neighbors" so nobody's feelings get hurt and to limit ACLU defense team involvement, as they probably have plenty illegal alien murderers, rapists, and drug pushers civil liberties to defend.

How much of the world that sees how the US does things, just laugh their asses off at us? (rhetorical)

enemy combatants = prisoners of war.

Sure, but not in this new Obama nation.

taltamir
enemy combatants = prisoners of war.

It might be APPLIED to the same people, but it doesn't have the same legal ramifications. I can't help but notice that the treatment afforded to "enemy combatants" at Guatanamo Bay wouldn't be permissable on "prisoners of war", to the best of my knowledge.

legally speaking?

an enemy combatant is one who has not been captured, the moment you capture an enemy combatant they become a prisoner of war.
