keep your friends close but your enemies closer

I was just getting all revved up to watch the wild card playoffs when this horrific News of a shooting came across the wire. I'm not all that familiar with Gabrielle Giffords, but it seems like shes a good old fashioned Democrat and an all around good lady. Reports say she was hit point blank in the head. Now reports that she has died. This is a sad day. I hope they give this cowardly killer a swift trip to the electric chair.

The sheriff of that county was just on MSNBC and he said he's fed up with the inflammatory crap that's coming from some people in the media these days. Thank you, sheriff, for being a lifeboat of reason in a sea of Republican assholes.

Its disgusting to blame all Republicans or conservatives for this heinous act. I'll tell you what, you don't hold me responsible for this nut and I wont hold you responsible for the Uni-bomber.

do we even know why the killer did what he did yet?  Isn't it kind of early to be playing any blame game right now?

Yup.  Killers are a diverse group.  I'd wait and see who/what/why before I started pointing fingers...he might be from your team.  She was a bluedog Dem, not exactly popular with everyone in her party.

I took a look at what was supposedly his MySpace page before it was taken offline. Lots of anti government rambling and just straight rambling. Might as well throw out all the political labels on this, although I'm sure the blogosphere will have "fun" with it from both sides....This is a sick kid with a troubled past who may have been exposed to a bit too much of the crap coming out certain professional pundits and extremist idiots. Really sad day in any case. Congresswoman Gifford's is about as bipartisan as it gets. She used to be a Republican but is now a Democrat. Simply represents her district and has always been one to work with both sides irrespective of which label she happened to run under at the time.  Judge Roll was there to thank her for backing his effort to get more support for the increasing number of immigration cases in the district. A nine year old child was killed as well as several other. Sad day indeed!

I agree Smoothseas.  Looks like he was just went off his rocker.   His favorite books are "Mein Kampf" "Communist Manifesto" and "Brave New World."     I know you can tell a lot about a person by what's on his bookshelf.  This doesn't fit any conservative or Republican I know of.

Looks like Infidel jumped to conclusions without any information to back himself up.  You may wish to rephrase your last statement there Infidel.

Yes, the news gets more horrific every day.

Now reports that she has died.

Praise Almighty God that she is alive and the doctors are optimistic that she will get through this.

His book list was far more than just those 3 books. A lot of anti government stuff from both ends of the spectrum. He got in trouble with the law, several times starting at a young age. Then he was rejected when he tried to enlist in the military. This guy hates law enforcement, the government, and has probably seen a psychiatrist or two over the years. This guy's "political" persuasion is "mentally unstable".

And Gifford was that woman whose office was wrecked following the health care vote.

Also, she had a crosshair painted on her forehead on Sarah Palin's homepage.

And then there were the local, conservative radio hosts ... So yeah, call for violence came from the right.

on Jan 09, 2011

There was no "call of violence" on the right for Giffords, and there was no crosshairs painted on her forehead from Palin.  You are referring to a vague campaign image which used crosshairs as a political metaphor.  Do you understand that has been going on for decades?  This is really pathetic coming from the left.

So yeah, call for violence came from the right.

The problem is not that it is a call for violence. It isn't. It's meant to be a call to rally certain people to vote a certain way. Unfortunately the pundits either don't understand or care that there are people on the fringe who don't think rationally and take it as something different from what it really is.  There are people and groups on both sides that stir the pot this way. I'm surprised this kind of thing didn't happen prior the election. It is something that could happen coming from either side of the spectrum. This looks like a mentally unstable kid and at this point we really don't know what put him over the edge to do what he did.

The hypocrisy in this event is that Gabrielle Gifford is an advocate for mental health issues and was named by the Mental Health Association of Arizona in 2004 as the legislator of the year.

The whole thing is just sad and tragic, but its compounded by the hysterical left-wing rush to pin this on the tea-party, or conservatives in general. There's really no evidence anywhere to indicate what motivated this psycho. Like its already been pointed out, Marx and Engels hardly strikes me as conservative reading. No conservative I know would list the Communist Manifesto on their reading list. Its just a terrible event made worse by the left wing who are now exploiting a national tragedy in a transparent attempt to marginalize people they disagree with.

They should be. Then you would know what you are voting and fighting for.

They should be. Then you would know what you are voting and fighting for.

Reading it and understanding it is somewhat different than listing it on a reading list as a favorite.
