keep your friends close but your enemies closer

Microsoft need to get serious about making Operating systems in the future and needs to give me at least 1 good reason to switch from Win 7 which is the best Operating system I've used to something new. With Win 8 I have nothing but reasons NOT to switch. Get serious people.

The americans to piss off the british after the independence changed a few words, such as colour (UK) to color (US)

Like the British really gave a flying f**k.   They're like me, don't give a toss how Americans spell this or friggin' that.  In fact, I don't care so much that I even ignore their damned spellcheckers and spell colour any damned way I like...  coulor, coloure, colouer, culler.

In fact, colourise.

Or how about vapourise.

And epitomise.

Lobotomise.

But the navigation itself inside the UI is easy at least for me i find stuff simply faster to me it simply appears more direct than in windows7.
To the finger painting part im not sure that will remain fiction - motion sensors get pretty good -the only question would be how to emulate pen pressure
Im
unfortunatly UNTIL your fingertips are the same size a pen NIB  then finger will be for quick/crude work with computers, and pen/mouse will be for slower/finer work.

and I ALSO dislike the ILLITERATE american'ts and their failure at spelling, most especially the word 'COLOUR'

Ditto. I went to school in America and the schoolbus I rode in had tires, not tyres, and was colored yellow. That extra vowel was something the Brits borrowed from the French. Well, they should have given it back and saved on wear and tear on their pencils.

colour, flavour, harbour, honour, humour, labour, neighbour, rumour... bah, screw "u"....too muuuuuch extra typing.

I´m gonna say something here...

Nobody in this thread -(Forgive me if someone did and I missed it)- has mentioned anything about how the goodies for skinning the OS has been taken away.

The "Blur", Aero, DWM transp. etc.

I am an artist & a Skinner foremost so to me THAT makes win8 Suck ! BigTime.

I used Win 8 home for about 3 weeks and personally thought it was an extremely ugly version of Win 7 without the startmenue with the MetroUi "on top" of it.

Maybe it´s faster, but that is of no relevance to me if I can´t make it look as good as I want.

Windowblinds 8 is around the Bend & if Neil somehow Magically made all the Glass etc reappear on 8 then I will prpbably make a U-turn on the subject, but as for now.

As a Skinner I have to agree with the OP.

+1

I put it on the wife's PC.. was on there about a month, neither of us could get used to it.. I found it clunky, flat, ugly and imo.. any speed improvements over 7, I didn't notice.

Just ZERO reasons for us to keep it on there.

Her camera wasnt supported neither was her printer..

reformatted, put 7 back on..

Everyone happy again now.

Consensus, yes.. Win 8 does, truly suck. (and yes, we gave it 'time')

and that is the same problem that plagued Vista.

It was NOT the fault of the OS, but rather the manufacturer's failure to produce drivers.

Although depending on the age of the product in question, they may not make any drivers for it anymore.

If you are unlucky and have to stay with the new OS you can just spend several hundred € for new hardware, too.

Now, that makes upgrading a really great idea.

and that is the hardware manufacturer's way of forcing you to buy new hardware. Not the fault of the OS manufacturer at all.

I see it all the time with various software vendors that require Java. The assholes refuse to update their product to be able to use a newer version of Java. They either want you to buy an updated version of their software or simply don't want to update what they do have. Yet another required application on the same pc requires a higher version of Java to operate.

I liked Vista and I thought it had a lot of problems.  Even long after SP1 it was very glitchy (forgetting folder settings, among other things) and I think some of it persisted even after SP2 (though that cleaned up most of it IIRC.)

That's why people were so happy with 7 IMO, even though its only real claim to fame was being more efficient and slightly less annoying.

I liked Vista and I thought it had a lot of problems.

I liked Vista as well... and once SP1 resolved the folder 'copy/move' issues I was pretty much happy with its performance.  Let's just say that I had very few, if any real issues with it after SP1.  I have Vista Home Premium SP2 x64 on a 'visitors machine' and it runs like a dream.  Occasionally I have a dabble on it and keep it updated, etc... though if my little bird is correct it will lose support mid-2013, meaning I'll disconnect it from the net and just use it as an in-house entertainment hub.

Oh, and another reason Win 7 sux bilge water... I has ter go upstairs if'n I want ta use it.
